Natalie Anderson asked:

Volkswagen of America has recently announced that it will operate a production-based GTI Cup spec racing series beginning in 2008 to give chance to aspiring young racers who wants dreams of entering the professional motorsports someday. The new series is going to be sanctioned by the Sports Club of America.

According to Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris NIssen, Volkswagen as an automotive manufacturer is represented around the globe, and we have a strong history in motorsports, including successful spec racing Cup programs in more than 10 countries. The GTI Cup in America will underscore Volkswagens competitive spirit and the inspiration we take from racing into the building of our vehicles.

Although the GTI Cup racer was optimized for track performance and safety, the core or the life of the GTI remains to be the street versions high-tech, 200 horsepower 2.0T four-cylinder engine that delivers 207 ft-lbs of torque. It is also fitted with an automated manual DSG transmission, electro-mechanical power rack-and-pinion steering system, and advanced multi-link fully independent sports-tuned rear suspension. In short the production GTI is an extremely capable machine to take on any racing challenge.

Meanwhile the German automaker has also confirmed that its motorsports-inspired 250-horsepower R32 is returning to the US this year but also added that quantity will be limited to only 5,000 units. The new R32 is scheduled to hit dealerships in August.

The R32 was first introduced in the US market in the year 2004 and shortly after its debut a great number of units were sold out. For this year since the R32 is offered in limited number only, Volkswagen will set up a reservation system in which through its R32 micro site on the automakers official web site. Interested R32 customers are to complete a purchase interest form, generating what Volkswagen describes as an R32 certificate. The first 850 people who would present an R32 certificate plus deposit to a Volkswagens dealer will be able to get one of the first R32 vehicles.

The R32 just like other Volkswagens masterpieces is built using only the best auto parts and that includes Volkswagen motor mount which is popular for quality and durability. The R32 is powered by a 3.2 liter V6 that produces 250 hp and 236 ft-lbs of torque. It is also outfitted with a standard 4Motion all-wheel-drive. The automaker said it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds.

Other features of the R32 include: twin chrome exhausts, 18 inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, a unique front grille and R32 badging. Its standard features are consist of a rear roof spoiler, deep front spoiler and body-color bumpers, side bump strips, door handles and door mirrors. It also boasts of safety features like electronic stability control and antilock brakes. The interior features include aluminum-look pedals and sports seats, a 10-speaker premium CD stereo system and a trip computer.

Caffeinated Content

Dwyane Thomas asked:

The inaugural F1 race which took place in Melbourne, Australia over the weekend has proved to be quite a race for the reigning world champion Fernando Alonso and teammate Lewis Hamilton who finished second and fourth respectively. The F1 race was also a great opportunity for Mercedes-Benz to show the world the outstanding performance of its vehicles and that includes displaying how durable the Mercedes auto parts and accessories are like Mercedes Benz car cover which are perfect for protecting Mercedes vehicles.

From the start of the race, the duo managed to maintain their positions at the head of the pack until Alonso dropped back to fourth by the first corner while Hamilton moved into third following BMWs Nick Heidfeld and former McLaren Mercedes driver Kimi Raikkonen.

It was only on the 14th lap that Heidfeld entered the pits for the first time giving Lewis and Fernando the opportunity to move into second and third spots. Kimi entered the pits on the 19th lap which allows the McLaren Mercedes duo to up another spot. After the 22 and 23 laps, Alonso and Lewis entered their pits for the first time and resuming their former positions as third and second respectively.

Then on lap 42 Kimi made his second pit stop, giving Lewis the chance to take the lead, unfortunately a lapped car slowed his speed enabling Fernando to close the gap between himself and his teammate. Lap 43 came and Lewis has to make a pit stop, Fernando has taken advantage of this to gain back the lead until he pitted two laps after. When he gets back on the race, Alonso was already accelerating to second place ahead of his teammate Lewis and trailing behind Kimi. These positions were maintained through the end of the race.

The F1 Race in Melbourne ended remarkably for the Team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes better than their performance last year.

Here are some of the comments during the race (source emercedesbenz.com):

—–Fernando Alonso: “What a great way to start the season and my career as a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver. Of course it’s always better to win but Kimi was a little bit quicker than us today, but we scored the maximum points that were possible, and I’m really pleased. My start was a bit strange with both BMWs being very quick off the line, and I was so busy defending my line from Heidfeld on the outside that it was not possible for me to defend the corner. I was then behind the Lewis for a while and was just focusing on keeping up with him and sometimes dropping back to allow the car to cool down. I took second after the second pitstop as I was able to stay out for an additional two laps. Originally it was meant to be one lap but because I was behind Lewis I managed to save enough fuel for one more lap. Both of the Bridgestone Potenza tyre options worked well. We will now continue to work hard to give us the best opportunity to beat Ferrari at the Malaysian Grand Prix.”

—-Lewis Hamilton: “I’m absolutely ecstatic today’s result is more than I ever dreamed of achieving on my Grand Prix debut. A big thank you to the team who have worked so hard during the winter to make sure I was as prepared as I possible could be. I made a good start but the BMWs were quick off the line and Kubica managed to get past. There was no room on the inside so I got on the left and managed to outbrake both Kubica and Fernando coming into the first corner to take third. The race was intense, and I was working very hard. I made a few mistakes but nothing major and really enjoyed myself. It was great to lead the race for a few laps, but I knew it was only a temporary thing. Fernando got past me in the second pitstop as he was able to stay out a bit longer and I lost some time behind backmarkers. We now have a lot of work ahead of us with the Malaysia test and the rest of the season, but there is no doubt that we can build from what has been achieved today.”

—-Ron Dennis, Team Principal: “Of course as always we came to Australia to win but a somewhat unexpected strategy adopted by BMW was very disruptive to our race. Following Heidfeld’s first pitstop the gap was just too big to realistically close it and the additional range from our strategy was subsequently wasted. Both drivers did an excellent job giving us a narrow lead in the Constructors’ Championship. A special thank you to the test team and the workforce back at the McLaren Technology Centre who have worked so hard during the winter and contributed so much to the faultless reliability that we have enjoyed throughout the weekend. The coming Malaysian test should give us every opportunity to further improve the competitiveness of our cars.”

—-Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport: “The season started well with Fernando and Lewis scoring 14 points out of 18 possible on their debut race for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. Fernando showed with his performance exactly why he is the double world champion whilst Lewis made a perfect start to his Grand Prix career and proved absolutely worthy of the confidence we have had in him for the past ten years. Although we still have to work hard to further improve our technical package, we showed today that throughout the winter we have made improvements. We will now focus on the Malaysia test and are looking forward to the next race. Thanks to everybody in the team in Woking, Brixworth and Stuttgart, all their efforts will pay off.”

Kansieo.com

Anthony Fontanelle asked:

A rare Nazi-era vehicle concealed from the German mine shaft during World War II is now on display for two days at Audis showroom on Park Avenue. The silver D-Type from Auto Union, Audis forerunner, will eventually be auctioned on February 17 in Paris as part of Christies Retromobile auto sale. The race car is estimated to be worth millions of dollars and it is expected to fetch around $12 million to $15 million.

Christies said, While Adolph ****** gave about 500,000 reichsmarks to Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz to promote racing and technology, the car is not specifically affiliated with the Third Reich. The D-Type on display, the grandfather of modern race cars, is one of only 2 in existence. Said car has revolutionized automotive racing by putting the driver in front of the engine instead of behind it. It speeds up to 185 miles per hour.

This car was really quite ahead of its time, said Rupert Banner, head of Christies International Motor Cars division. It was revolutionary. It changed the face of racing. Over 20 Auto Union series cars were manufactured between 1933 and 1939. The D-Type, designed by Ferdinand Porsche, has a body shape likened to an airplane fuselage. The driver sits sunken into the body of the metal, and the wheels. The latter appears like oversized bicycle tires having independent suspension. Automakers of today are improving their line from race cars like the D-Type. As a fact, the latest and greatest formulation for fast street or light track vehicles having EBC Redstuff are also inspired by race cars like the D-Type.

There was a kind of memory loss after the war, said Audi historian Thomas Erdmann. It took really until the early 1960s and later on to the 1980s for car design to catch up to these cars. Just before World War II, the D-Type won the 1939 French Grand Prix. The car, also called the Silver Arrow, was filmed winding through country roads for use in newsreels across Europe. They vanished, lost behind the Iron Curtain, Erdmann added.

In the racing realm, German cars were always using the color silver, French use blue and British green. These colors eventually became their trademarks. This is the reason behind the sleek silver color of the D-Type.

During the heyday of the World War II, Auto Union workers hid the cars in a mine shaft in eastern Germany to shun using them for scrap metal. After the historic war, the Russians discovered the cars and took them to their own country, along with dismantled Auto Union factories, to re-create motorsports. The cars were taken apart.

An American car collector came across car parts in a scrap heap in Ukraine and took them back to England. There, Crosthwaite & Gardiners auto experts restored it. Christies did not divulge who is selling it.

auto racing

Frank Dervin asked:

You may have always dreamed of racing around the city in a brand new sports car of your dreams but the financial burden has kept this cherished dream unfulfilled. You may have thought about financing your dream car, but the banker refused your loan application because of your poor credit history. There are a lot of people out there with poor credit profiles and for them auto loans bad credit is certainly great news.

A bad credit auto loan provides the opportunity for an individual to receive better interest rates and a lower payment on a current vehicle. This type of service could be available to a car owner that has a vehicle that is worth more than the remaining balance owed, or if it has already been bought outright. To refinance means to finance again. Auto loans bad credit funds pay off the original lender and begin a new term with a new payment amount. Some borrowers make applications yearly in hopes to find the best rates. As long as the automobile holds its value; a lender will more than likely approve the loan.

The car is pledged as security, and is therefore the leading factor in whether or not approval is achieved. If the borrower’s financial score is too low (lower than 550); they may be ineligible to apply. Aside from that fact you need to do a lot of additional convincing to get yourself a bad credit auto loan. The chances of getting a loan are higher if you are willing to provide the lender with a form of collateral.

Since there is a growing population of people with poor credit histories, there are specialized lending companies that have risen up to provide auto loans bad credit. These companies provide you a loan not on the basis of your past but they take your current financial situation into consideration.

Caffeinated Content for WordPress

Kristi Ambrose asked:

It was the year 1998 and as part of Nascars 50th anniversary they decided to gather a list of 50 of the top race car drivers in the auto racing industry, the idea first came about when the NBA granted 50 of its players for the Greatest Players In NBA history. To quote the president of Nascar, Bill France said that “These are the men who define the competition of our sport. Their accomplishments are the benchmark that much of our history is identified by. Honoring them in this way, at the beginning of the NASCAR 50th Anniversary celebration, is one way of showing our true appreciation for them and the invaluable contribution they have given over the past 50 years. These are the drivers who made and make NASCAR fans stand on their feet and cheer. These are the drivers who are NASCAR history.”

Well since there is already a list of 50 that commemorates all the greatest drivers, I decided to make a list of 10 along with their sponsorships and or brands of the drivers at hand along with a little bit of other information about the driver. These drivers have all been in the limelight for quite some time now, but a few of them are up and coming drivers as well. The old 50 count list had a lot of deceased drivers, and I wanted to list all the newer drivers still in the Nascar industry. These drivers are not in any sort of an order, so let’s take a look, shall we?

Jeff Gordon of Pittsboro, Indiana was born August 4, 1971 and drives the Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevrolet. Rank #4

And of course rank #1 is Jimmie Johnson but, if you’re a ******** fan you wouldn’t even have to take a guess at why! In 2007 he had 36 starts, 10 wins, 24 top tens, 4DNFS and he was the NEXTEL Cup Championship. As a third consecutive championship Jimmie and crew chief Knaus will not make the same mistakes that caused the suspensions and penalties that they had last season. The two men work as a team very well and plan on improving their game plan a little better this year!

Caffeinated Content for WordPress

Leaftech asked:

Automobile racing is one of the most popular sports in the world, and certainly has its place among the most watched sports in North America. Every year, thousands of people watch what is happening on the NASCAR and CART circuits and every year thousands of people seek to emulate the pros.

The history of professional and amateur auto racing probably goes back to the days when the automobile was first invented and the first competitive spirit jumped into his drivers seat, while his friend jumped into their car. Since that time, the sport has been refined and marketed to become the past time that it is today, and that has meant a lot of change along the way.

The turbocharger

One of the big changes that revolutionized auto racing was the introduction of the turbo charger. The charger itself was actually invented in the very first years of the 20th century, and began showing up in practical applications (specifically ships and locomotives) around the 1920s.

Turbochargers increase the amount of air drawn into the piston of an engine at each stroke, thereby increasing the power boost that the engine supplies to the vehicle in motion (more air equals more fuel). Turbochargers use the rotation of the crankshaft as their power source, using the heat produced to power in the extra air. They are said to be more efficient than superchargers, which draw power from the engine itself.

The turbocharger and auto racing

The first use of a turbocharger in auto racing was in the late 1970s, when auto producer Renault of France introduced the turbo charged engine into their Formula One vehicles. This was a relatively late development given the long history of the turbo charger, but up until this point racecar developers believed the technology was not fuel efficient or reliable enough to power a successful racecar.

Renault proved critics wrong, however, by using a turbocharger that provided a significant boost to the speed of the car with the use of a fairly small engine. By the early 1980s, all Formula One cars were equipped with turbo chargers.

Turbo charging and the driver

Aside from increasing the speed a racecar could hit in a short amount of time, the skill needed to use a turbo charger in an engine also meant a new breed of drivers were needed. This development was not just limited to professional circuits like Formula One; amateurs all over the world found that successfully racing a turbo driven car meant an increase in timing ability, reflexes, and even strength.

The introduction of the turbo charger changed auto racing forever. Today, there are several styles of auto racing that do not allow turbo chargers, but even so, the very fact that there has to be litigation against these innovations is an indication of their far reaching impact and application!

Caffeinated Content for WordPress

Kraig Johanssen asked:

The Motorsports world welcomes any driver with enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment to race.

Kevin Lacroix is the newest driver of Brooks Associates Racing. He started competing in the Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda last weekend and will again be competing at the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland presented by Joe’s Sports wherein he will drive the #10 Uni-Select car.

This 18-year-old French Canadian racer since he was a kid was already into the open wheel fast track. At the age of 7, he already started his career in karting where he was chosen by one of the highest ranking officers of Stars of Karting.”

Because the official was impressed by his performance, he was granted a scholarship at the BMW racing school in Spain. For the first time, he competed there in open wheel at age of 16 and quickly gained six podiums and four victories. He successfully ranked second in the Formula BMW American Championship and, take note of this, finished in the top five ten times in fourteen races. Amazing, is it not. At the age of 17, he competed in Star Mazda where he placed second at the end of the Championship.

John Brooks, the team owner of Brooks Associates Racing, said that they were able to test with Kevin for two days last week at Firebird. He commented that it was a bit surprising from Montreal for the young driver who immediately gained quick times. He added that Kevin vividly depicts a rising star and an added strength to the ChampCar Atlantic series. The team was definitely extremely pleased to have him.

Kevin said that he felt glad and lucky being a part of a competitive team. He was optimistic that even they did not have the pre-season testing; their team is going to be competitive once they work together. He considered their 2-day practice at Firebird an enough effort for them to get some podiums and the grand prix for this season.

For the balance of the season, Kevin replaced Joe DAgostino. The team owner said that Joes budget was not sufficient this time so he was not able to continue. Nonetheless, John hopes for Joes running again in the later part of this season for he is a committed young driver whose future in Motosports in trending is good.

About Mazda and its Auto Racing

Mazda Motor Corporation is the sponsor of the Star Mazda Championship. Aside from manufacturing quality auto part such as Mazda tail lights, the company is also known in the world of auto racing.

In the field of racing, Mazda is successful with two-rotor, three-rotor, and four-rotor cars. Private racers have also had considerable success with stock and modified Mazda cars with Wankel engines.

Mazda’s competition in race started on October 20, 1968. This was when two Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S coupes entered the 84 hour ultra endurance race in Marathon de la Route at Nrburgring. One car finished as the fourth placer and the other broke an axle after 81 hours.

Caffeinated Content for WordPress

Peter Wilson asked:

If you have the need for speed and enjoy auto racing then a racing holiday may be something right up your alley. There are a number of options available to choose from since fun holidays that focus on sports is on the rise. You can plan your auto racing vacation on your own; use the internet to search for locations, dates and hotels that offer discounts and package to the events. Many events have services that will suggest hotels and packages. There are also travel agents that specialize in sport holidays. They not only save you time and hassle but they know the ins and outs of your event and destination so the guesswork is taken out of your trip.

First you need to decide what kind of holiday you are interested in and the level of action. If you’re traveling with children and you’re interested in the history of racing you may want to visit a racing museum, such as the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame in Mooresville, North Carolina. Museums contain original and replica cars from yesteryears and today. They may also contain interactive exhibits which can be fun for the whole family.

You may prefer a vacation with more excitement that includes an auto racing event such as NASCAR, the Grand Prix, or Formula One. There are packages available that will give you special privileges such as preferred seating and receptions. Depending on the package and the cost some even offer you a chance to meet the drivers and crew. You can rent a scanner to hear the drivers and race officials so you feel like you are part of the action. These packages take out the hassle of planning since many include air transportation, admission tickets, hotels, transfers and other freebies such as souvenirs and other sightseeing trips.

The ultimate adrenaline rush auto racing holiday is by attending an actual racing school. Choose a school that has the cars you wish to drive; some use street legal sports cars and some use actual motorway race cars. There are several classes available and they range from a half day to a few days. Usually a few hours are spent in the classroom and then you suit up and the rest is on the speedway. You won’t actually be racing; there will be no pressure to blow away your classmates on the track. You will be learning the techniques the pros use in racing which will help you in every day driving and still fill that need for speed. They’ll teach you under-steer and over-steer corrections, proper braking, turning at high speeds and other tricks of the trade. You’ll be taken through slaloms and let loose on the track to fulfill your dreams of racing with the pros.

Whether your appetite is as an auto racing spectator or as a participant there is sure to be a race holiday to get your adrenaline going and provide you with your dream vacation.

Website content
